WWC Releases New Practice Guide: Teaching Elementary School Students to Be Effective Writers
Four strategies to improve elementary students’ writing are described in a new practice guide from the What Works Clearinghouse (WWC).
The practice guide, Teaching Elementary School Students to Be Effective Writers, recommends that teachers:
- Provide daily time for students to write.
- Teach students to use the writing process for a variety of purposes.
- Teach students to become fluent with handwriting, spelling, sentence construction, typing, and word processing.
- Create an engaged community of writers.
Download the guide now to see these recommendations in detail, including implementation ideas and examples, summaries of supporting research, and solutions to common roadblocks. To learn more about the WWC and its topics and publications, go to whatworks.ed.gov.
